Biking to work increases 60% in the last decade
When it comes to biking/walking to work I think the real story is at the zip code and census tract level. When you can actually find the data it tends to show that neighborhoods that are well suited to biking and walking have a much hire mode share for it than the areas surrounding them.
Michael … Yes. That’s one of the reasons I’ve been focusing most of my promotion of bicycling on Springfield’s urban core. Our far-flung suburban areas just are not suited to beginning cyclists. And bicycle lanes won’t help if for no other reason (and there are plenty of others) than there is no coherent system — just a hodgepodge of isolated stretches on a few streets. Waste of money.
Andy, can you help me out? My town, Eau Claire WI, is thinking about installing a few beastly bike boxes and I’m trying to find some info on why this might not be the best idea.
