The STAR Team will begin promoting the city bus system as part of the committee’s Let’s Go Smart campaign. That was welcome news from yesterday’s meeting. More on this as it develops…
The Ozarks Transportation Organization has released its 2012 implementation report for its bike/ped plan. Lots of interesting progress.
I’ll link to the .pdf as soon as I can. I’ll comment on specific parts of the current implementation in a separate post.
We got to see a map of the city’s bicycle facility plan. As CT readers are well aware, I’ve been less than pleased with all the paint being spilled on the streets to create bicycle lanes lately. I’m happy to report that effort is nearing its end. The addition of sharrows to the bicycle route system — the plan I heartily endorse — is now beginning. So be watching for video of those facilities soon.
(As a reminder: My opposition to bicycle lanes is complicated. I have the usual complaints coming from my traffic cycling perspective, e.g. lanes unfairly segregate bicyclists and create conflicts that didn’t exist in the first place. But more, I simply do not want to use such facilities — I do not need them — and I fear they will be made mandatory when some politician decides it’s a good idea.)
Finally, getting back to the bus thing, check out this new local blog — The Bus Culture Experience.
UPDATE: I’ve added a link to the OTO 2012 implementation report above.
