Snowpocalypse Now

Hmmmm… Yucky, but not quite dire yet.

I can hear the theme to Dr. Zhivago.

There’s more on the way.

Hmmmmm...

The forecast now says 5 to 8 inches of snow expected today and 1 to 3 tonight. That’s a downgrade from last night. I went to bed with thoughts of 12 to 20.

While I dislike the term “hardcore” to describe bicyclists who ride in bad weather (I reject the idea that car drivers are having a higher quality experience), anyone on a bicycle today would earn the h-word. Ain’t gonna be me :-)

UPDATE: 9:52 a.m.

Really coming down now.

UPDATE: Noonish

Hoth.

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.

Hoping the second driveway shoveling is the last for today.

Hmmmm… how does one measure snowfall? Looks like 10 inches to me in the packed areas. I shoveled 6 inches off my driveway — twice! So, do you count fluffy new inches or compacted inches? — And, yes, I had to think carefully not to create any unintended¬†innuendo¬†there ;-)

UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.

Third shoveling coming up. I hate snow.

UPDATE: File this under “Sucks a lot.”

Some miserable bastard stole my two snow shovels. Seriously.

I was sitting here working on the interwebs when I heard a clatter that sounded like the mailman. I didn’t think anything of it, but I did peek out the window by my desk. I saw a small blue van pulled across my driveway. I didn’t think anything of that, either.

A few minutes later I peeked out and saw footprints on my driveway.

And a bit later still I went out to shovel the driveway a third time and discovered my shovels had been stolen. My neighbor saw the same blue van and told me a boy from the van had knocked on his door but left before he answered.

You should really get some studded tires for your bike, if only to try them out for a day or two. You might find, like many of us, that they’re a ton o’ fun. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be hard to sell them if you decide they’re not your thing.

Watch the movie again with the kid clumping through the snow and singing “I like the snow.”

I guess I’ll have to scale back my own intended post for later today. Of course, our standards are much lower than those of y’all up in Yankeeland.

Scott… I have thought about making a set just for fun :-)

Steve… We don’t get that much snow usually. Ice is our thing :-)

    Andy,

If you ditched the car, you would only need to clear about one shovels width of your driveway!

In a loft, you don’t have to shovel. I’m just sayin’. :-)
