Well, not much snow. We might get a couple of inches. There was just a dusting overnight, but it was enough to keep me off my bicycle. I just don’t like riding in slick conditions.
So I walked to school today.
A nice lady pulled up beside me while I walked along Grand and asked if I were going to MSU. Then she asked if I wanted a ride. I thanked her and said “no.” I added something about liking to walk and it being good for me.
This same thing happened last year.
I’m not sure I should have added that last part. But, really, I believe I was having a higher quality experience walking than she was having driving. Driving in slick conditions is technically challenging — and not in a fun way. I suppose I could make the same claim about walking in slick conditions
In any case, I appreciated the politeness and concern. And that leads me to: 10 Reasons to Be Nice to Pedestrians in 2011.

Ha! The comments on the pedestrian article are the same as they are on any cycling story. The comments come almost exclusively from auto drivers complaining about the rules being broken. I won’t drive nice until pedestrians start using the crosswalk!
