Smart Phones and Bicycle Sharing

Interesting news out of New York:

This Fall, New York City denizens will have the opportunity to test an experimental public bike share system. SoBi, the Social Bicycle System, presents an alternative to traditional public transportation and will allow riders the freedom to find and unlock nearby available communal bikes using an Andriod or iPhone application.

I got an iPhone this spring and find it very useful. And there are interesting apps for bicyclists. Hmmmmm… I need to write about that soon.

Have you found the iPhone changes the way you cycle? It has, in my case.

Steve… Not yet. I’ve only just begun to explore its potential — although I’ve made a lot of use of the GPS/mapping features. Do you have any suggestions?

I think you can figure out your own equivalent speed dial list. After I took that photo, I discovered that the STATE DOT owns some of the signals I encounter during my commute so you’ll want to have the Missouri equivalent. This is GREAT for reporting non functioning traffic devices in real time.

Lately, I also find myself looking at Weather Channel, WeatherBug, and MyRadar a lot. All of them are free apps.

I refuse to throw my lot in with AT&T!! Call it a personal preference based on personal history. You remember how, when you break up with someone, you suddenly hate them like never before and each tries to hurt the other as much as possible? Well, me and the AT&T had that kinda relationship. Our breakup cost me nearly $600 and I’m still a bit bitter!!!
