I was 13 years old on the first Earth Day and already an eco-warrior of the sort young teenagers tend to be — earnest, strident, and clueless. I’m not sure how much has changed.
Scattered thunderstorms here today, so I’m on foot. I’ll “celebrate” the day by pretty much just doing what I usually do — ever so steadily, if a bit slowly, downsizing my life into something more sustainable.

Myself, I rode to work because it’s what I do when I don’t drive.
OTOH, your post DID reveal a grossly underinvestigated area – namely the relationship between utility cycling and “severe thunderstorms.” It is an area I have never gotten comfy about.

But I wonder — Would Beijing be better off encouraging the continued use of bicycles or pushing ahead with the rapid expansion of individual car ownership?
