Jordan Creek Greenway

I rode on the Jordan Creek Greenway a few days ago as part of my effort to document the environment of Springfield’s urban core as part of my Urban Challenge series. Jordan Creek runs east to west through the middle of the core.

Our Greenways system is nice. They don’t offer much advantage as travel lanes, but they are very nice parks.

I like how there is a connection up to the road level at every underpass. I’m impressed at how slowly you can ride, too.

I spent about the first 18 years of my life being raised very close to the point where this video begins in Smith Park. This was part of a hugh Second World War Army Hospital: O’Reilly Hospital.

Depending on where I’m headed for in town, I often use this segment of trail. My reservations: 1) I wish the surface was totally dry during our dry spells; and 2) I think it is a little clumsy where this segment ends on Sherman.

This trail picks up again, several blocks south on Sherman and goes parallel to Trafficway as far as Jefferson where it picks up a few city blocks with sharrows.

Matt… Yep, first gear. The slick spots that day were freaking me out a bit.
