About 10 years ago I worked as a delivery driver in St. Louis, MO. My employer was an auto parts distributor with customers all over the city and in St. Louis County. I was in traffic from the time I left my house in the morning until I got home each evening. What I discovered was that by only listening to loud or fast music for an hour or two each morning, and then switching to classical or jazz for the remainder of the day, left me much more relaxed. I don’t know if this made me more aware of my surroundings, but it certainly helped deal with the frustrations of city traffic. I didn’t get aggravated at the other idiots on the road, I was less aggressive, had fewer “close calls”, never got into a hurry, and I made my deliveries on time more often. Go figure.
