So I was standing in line at the Break Time convenience store a few minutes ago getting coffee. It’s just across the street from Craig Hall where my office is located. I’m a fool for icky-sweet machine “cappuccino” drinks when the weather is chilly
I hear this conversation between the guy ahead of me and the clerk:
Guy: When did the price go up?
Clerk: Just a few minutes ago. But we were the last. Everyone else raised theirs early this morning.
Guy: I guess to catch the rush hour traffic.
Clerk: Yep.
The price of regular gas at about noon today at Break Time was $2.27.
I had no idea
Oh, yes. Ignorance is bliss.

And they paid how much for their primo coffees? WhinerNation.
Posted 15 Oct 2009 at 12:08 pm ¶Still a bargain at twice the price. That gas is under 8 cents per thousand calories. How much would the same energy cost at McDonalds?
Posted 15 Oct 2009 at 6:49 pm ¶Here, here, we should pay three times as much for gas and with fewer environmental controls! We owe our lives to the oil companies, I hope any of us would gladly sacrifice a goat and our first born for these kind and benevolent souls.
It’s not just the whiners and the primo coffee drinks, it’s those bicyclists and mac users and commies and the pink-os and don’t get me started on the labour unions… those bastards drive up prices on hard working Americans by making us work 8 hour days and fighting for safety standards…
ha ha ha ha give me a break! I don’t normally say this, but has someone been inhaling fumes from the gasoline? “a bargain” ? *rolling my eyes*
Why don’t you come down here to Houston and drive past the miles of environmental devastation and then get sick for two days after having been outside on the east side of the city which is a giant burning smokestack hell and then tell me what a bargain. I’m sorry but this is patently ridiculous.

But who cares? It’s cheap enough. This is America. We can afford to be wasteful. For now.

What I like about the Break time coffee, besides its machiney goodness is its cheapness
Did I tell you guys about the time I was drunk in a Mexican bar and tried to figure out if it was worth the caloric energy to bend over and pick up a centavo? Yes, I think I did
Posted 16 Oct 2009 at 8:03 am ¶It’s a “bargain” only because we subsidize the heck out of it (direct tax breaks, military adventures, etc) and don’t include the externalized costs (pollution, climate change, etc) in the price.
Posted 16 Oct 2009 at 8:06 am ¶Andy, do you have any theories on why iPhone comments suddenly don’t work on your blog any more?
And yes, I seem to recall the Andy story about the Mexican bar…
Posted 17 Oct 2009 at 5:56 pm ¶Steve… No clue. Nothing has changed on this end. No updates, etc. Let me know what you find out.
