Renovations continue on the Square downtown. This morning I checked out the work at the most popular corner where the library and Coffee Ethic are located.

There’s still much work to do. You’ll notice that the bicycle racks had to be removed to begin work. I’ve heard this morning from a member of the Sustainable Transportation Committee of Ozarks Greenways that the city is working on replacing them. No details yet.

For now, bicyclists must find parking where they can. I’ve been parking on Patton Alley. There are also wave racks on South Street and Park Central East. The owner of this bicycle is probably keeping his eye on it from inside the library.

is there room for bike corals? How heavy is the bicycle parking traffic?

Posted 01 Jul 2009 at 3:20 pm ¶I thought that article brought up an interesting point about store owners wanting bike racks outside their stores to bring in traffic. Do you think the traffic in Springfield is heavy enough that store owners will join the fight for more bike racks near their location? If so If so do you think the same owners would be willing to help spread the word about biking as a mode of transportation (either fund raisers or just a simple notice to learn more taped to the storefront window)?

Posted 02 Jul 2009 at 8:23 pm ¶Andrew and Shek… The advocacy committee is working right now to develop a downtown-bicycle program. I hope to have details later this month. It’s always a good idea to ask a retailer to provide parking. It shows interest.
