Fantasy and Reality

The fantasy (with a healthy dose of American mythology) is used to sell cars:

The reality is used to sell motor oil (Quaker State World’s Worst Commute):

Americans, however, are now driving fewer miles and traffic deaths have declined, although from the way we drive it seems clear to me that there is no number of deaths that would encourage us to question the whole car thing.

We need a video/PSA to sell utility bicycling (see the comments to this post).

So, Carbon Trace readers, have you seen a good one (something, perhaps, that combines encouragement with safety)? If so, please post a link in the comments. Or send me a link by e-mail or through Facebook.

Hmm, the oil guy’s commute sounds a lot like mine except mines a mile shorter and there are no tunnels.

Luckily, the bicycle route is only 20 miles and a LOT more pleasant. What mystifies me is why everyone else seems to just keep driving in and why they’re amazed that, as time goes along, I ride in to work more and more often…
