Advocacy Committee News

Here are a few interesting developments from the Sustainable Transportation Committee of Ozark Greenways:

  • Bicycle racks will return to the Square downtown once the perimeter of the renovation is finished — about two more months. The city will install U-racks for businesses that request them. Plus, the city is planning to add more racks on streets near the Square.
  • A fall edition of Bike to Work Week is being planned. Details soon.
  • The bicycle infrastructure petition presented to the city council in May made a good impression, according to Mayor Pro Tem Dan Chiles. The committee is now planning to present bicycle-related issues and updates quarterly to the council.
  • The committee will re-apply in March for Bicycle Friendly Community status with the League of American Bicyclists.

    Has Springfield applied before?

Having the police training would really help your application. There are questions in both Enforcement and Education about that.

We earned an “honorable mention” a year ago. And, yes, we’re trying to come up with something re: enforcement. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
