Clueless at the Library

As you know from from my podcast yesterday, I attended the Repower, Refuel, and Rebuild America Forum sponsored by Show Me Your Solutions at the Library Center on Campbell — not the most bicycle-friendly location. But I was happy to see a bicycle rack when I arrived. The problem was, however, that I had no clue how to use it.

That’s my buddy David Catlin unlocking his bicycle. He didn’t know how to use it either. That’s my Redline R530 in the foreground — parked on the end, which is my default parking position on wheel-benders. It wasn’t clear to me if this was a wheel bender or not. So I erred on the side (of the rack) of caution.

David and I arrived separately, so we didn’t get a chance to consult each other before we parked. After the meeting we put our heads together and finally figured it out, or at least we came to a conclusion we’re both comfortable with. You’re apparently supposed to put your front tire in the box area (there are two little rubber grippers to hold it). Then you lower the swinging arm and lock your wheel and frame to it.

You can see from the photo that the kid who owns the pink bicycle got it right :-)
